The Moderator has kindly given us a bit of leeway to include compilations, soundtracks and greatest hits \u2026 so here we go\u2026<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.brucethomas.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Lennon.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-2364\" title=\"Lennon\" src=\"https:\/\/www.brucethomas.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Lennon.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"100\" height=\"100\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>John Lennon: <em>Plastic Ono Band<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Hard to describe the impact this had after <em>Abbey Road<\/em>. Raw, honest and brave. Probably has to go at No. 1 as the best album ever made. Followed by, in no particular order\u2026<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.brucethomas.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/dan.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-2367\" title=\"dan\" src=\"https:\/\/www.brucethomas.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/dan.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"100\" height=\"100\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Steely Dan: <em>Can\u2019t Buy A Thrill<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The Dan\u2019s first and most pop-oriented album. Well-crafted songs, original and intelligent lyrics, beautifully sung by David Palmer, great arrangements, great playing and benchmark production with absolutely no filler.\u00a0 Still stands up over 40 years on. Timeless.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.brucethomas.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/drake.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-2370\" title=\"drake\" src=\"https:\/\/www.brucethomas.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/drake.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"100\" height=\"100\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Nick Drake: <em>Five Leaves Left<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The most original songwriter of any era \u2014 and an exquisite record with Robert Kirby\u2019s string arrangements. Everybody believed in him \u2014 except the one person that really needed to&#8230;\u00a0 Nick Drake died at the age of 26 in enigmatic circumstances.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.brucethomas.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/astral.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-2374\" title=\"astral\" src=\"https:\/\/www.brucethomas.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/astral.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"100\" height=\"100\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Van Morrison: <em>Astral Weeks<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The album was recorded in a day, semi-improvised, with the premier jazz players of the day. This album set a benchmark which only Nick Drake managed to touch.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.brucethomas.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/verve.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-2379\" title=\"verve\" src=\"https:\/\/www.brucethomas.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/verve.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"100\" height=\"99\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Verve: <em>Urban Hymns<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Every track is a winner here.\u00a0 Great band sound. Like all great albums, not simply music, but a friend for life.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.brucethomas.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/eno.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-2389\" title=\"eno\" src=\"https:\/\/www.brucethomas.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/eno.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"100\" height=\"100\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Brian Eno: <em>Another Day on Earth.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>A delicate \u2018less is more\u2019 chilled album you will not tire of listening to.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.brucethomas.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Giuffre.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-2393\" title=\"Giuffre\" src=\"https:\/\/www.brucethomas.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Giuffre.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"100\" height=\"99\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Jimmy Guiffre Trio: <em>The Train and the River<\/em><\/p>\n<p>My favourite jazz album. Bluesy jazz guitar, bass and sax trio. Having no drums allows the fluid rhythmic playing that expresses the album\u2019s title.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.brucethomas.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/passion.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-2396\" title=\"passion\" src=\"https:\/\/www.brucethomas.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/passion.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"100\" height=\"100\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Peter Gabriel: <em>Passion<\/em> (soundtrack)<\/p>\n<p>My favourite \u2018world music\u2019 album \u2014 real world.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.brucethomas.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Harder.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-2399\" title=\"Harder\" src=\"https:\/\/www.brucethomas.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Harder.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"100\" height=\"99\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Jimmy Cliff: <em>The Harder They Come<\/em> (soundtrack)<\/p>\n<p>My favourite reggae album \u2014 all the top artists, all their best tracks.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.brucethomas.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/abba.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-2402\" title=\"abba\" src=\"https:\/\/www.brucethomas.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/abba.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"100\" height=\"100\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Abba: <em>Greatest Hits<\/em><\/p>\n<p>All the great songs in one place \u2014 a pantheon of 3-minute wonders, neither cynical nor clever, just one indestructible diamond after another.
