\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>A while ago I started playing around with photo-manipulations of peoples\u2019 faces. \u00a0I long ago noticed (like you probably have) that most peoples\u2019 faces are not symmetrical.\u00a0 One eye usually has a different expression to the other \u2014 and the mouth is usually slightly lopsided.<\/p>\n<p>Without going into all the science of it (which would fill several books) there\u2019s sound evidence to support the idea that one half of the face (usually the person\u2019s own right side) represents the more conscious aspect of himself that he or she likes to present to the world \u2014 while the left side embodies the unconscious side and reveals the inner person.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s why deceitful people are called \u2018two-faced\u2019 \u2014 you\u2019d expect to see a difference in the faces of people who have very divergent outer and inner lives \u2014 or secret agendas at odds with what they say and do.\u00a0 \u2026Though you\u2019d also expect a similar thing in people who have rich and vivid inner lives, like philosophers and artists.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.brucethomas.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/LA.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-1931\" title=\"LA\" src=\"https:\/\/www.brucethomas.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/LA-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>The face that Lance Armstrong \u00a0presents to the world is broader than the other side \u2014\u00a0more a football player than a cyclist.\u00a0 It\u2019s\u00a0might be the\u00a0wholesome face of the man who fronts a charity \u2014 or the poster for a man\u00a0who wasn\u2019t far away from achieving his ambitions of political office.<\/p>\n<p>The lighting of the photograph has even subconsciously conspired to illuminate LA\u2019s darker side.\u00a0 We all now know what his secret agenda was for years, and what he was hiding.\u00a0 But the dark side wasn&#8217;t the drug-taking fraud so much as the vindictive sociopath who ruined the lives of many of his former friends and colleagues, who told the truth about him.\u00a0 It\u2019s the man who set about destroying the life and business of Greg LeMond \u2014 the greatest American cyclist of all time.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.brucethomas.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/TB.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-1936\" title=\"TB\" src=\"https:\/\/www.brucethomas.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/TB-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>This is a picture of the young Tony Blair before he\u00a0became leader of Britain and took the country to war on the basis of a bogus dossier and a litany of lies.\u00a0 Most of us here now know him (unaffectionately) as Tony B, Liar.\u00a0 As a youth Tony was an actor \u2014 about as good an actor as Hitler was painter.\u00a0 If either of them had been any good at their chosen career, the world would have been the better for it.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The inner Blair is a bit of a cheeky chappie , saying \u2018Like me, like me, please.\u2019\u00a0 The outer face is more mask-like, like an actor\u2019s mask.\u00a0 Tony\u2019s acting techniques still served him in good stead though \u2014 as the saying goes: \u2018The most important thing is sincerity \u2026 and once you can fake that you\u2019ve cracked it\u2019.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.brucethomas.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/TBC.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1938 alignright\" title=\"TBC\" src=\"https:\/\/www.brucethomas.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/TBC.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"421\" height=\"229\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a paintings,&#8217; as Margaret Thatcher called him.\u00a0 Bacon\u2019s paintings of half-human grotesques, burning popes and carcasses\u00a0form a body of work that got progressively more inward-looking, bleaker and concerned with death.\u00a0 In this later portrait of him\u00a0on the left,\u00a0it\u2019s as if only one eye is looking out into the world.<\/p>\n<p><a
