{"id":15,"date":"2011-08-10T19:00:12","date_gmt":"2011-08-10T18:00:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.brucethomas.co.uk\/?page_id=15"},"modified":"2016-08-31T10:59:43","modified_gmt":"2016-08-31T09:59:43","slug":"about","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.brucethomas.co.uk\/?page_id=15","title":{"rendered":"About"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>\u00a0<span style=\"color: #808080;\"><em>plays bass &#8230;<\/em><\/span><\/h2>\n<div id=\"attachment_821\" style=\"width: 190px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.brucethomas.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/bt-lmcM-e1320769860393.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-821\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-821  \" src=\"https:\/\/www.brucethomas.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/bt-lmcM-e1320769860393.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"180\" height=\"266\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-821\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">(c) Linda McCartney<\/p><\/div>\n<p>I&#8217;m probably best-known as the\u00a0bass player with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.brucethomas.co.uk\/?page_id=75\">Elvis Costello and the Attractions<\/a>, who I\u00a0recorded and performed with for the best part of twenty years &#8230;\u00a0and with whom I was inducted into the US Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2003.<\/p>\n<p>As a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.brucethomas.co.uk\/?page_id=72\">session musician<\/a>\u00a0I&#8217;ve worked on\u00a0both sides of the Atlantic, with artists like Sir Paul McCartney and Suzanne Vega &#8230;\u00a0by way of Billy Bragg, Tasmin Archer, The Pretenders and Madness, amongst many others.<\/p>\n<p>Following that, I collaborated on writing and producing dance and chill-out music under various names, such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.brucethomas.co.uk\/?page_id=77\">BAM<\/a>!<\/p>\n<p>A new project is\u00a0my <a href=\"https:\/\/www.brucethomas.co.uk\/?page_id=24\">Profile\u00a0Signature Model Bass<\/a>\u00a0&#8230;\u00a0an evolution of the well-known &#8216;salmon pink&#8217; guitar I used\u00a0with\u00a0the Attractions, which\u00a0has been developed with the Bass Centre\u00a0in London.<\/p>\n<h2>\u00a0<span style=\"color: #808080;\"><em>writes books \u2026<\/em><\/span><\/h2>\n<div id=\"attachment_819\" style=\"width: 190px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.brucethomas.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/BTauthor1bw-e1320240794508.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-819\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-819  \" src=\"https:\/\/www.brucethomas.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/BTauthor1bw-e1320240794508.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"180\" height=\"180\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-819\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">(c) Tim Kent<\/p><\/div>\n<p>My latest book<em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.brucethomas.co.uk\/?page_id=84\">Rough Notes<\/a><\/em> is both autobiography and cultural history, covering my entire career in music &#8230; and so includes many of the events, some prviously unknown, about my twenty years (on and off) as an Attraction.<\/p>\n<p><em><a title=\"Fighting Spirit\" href=\"https:\/\/www.brucethomas.co.uk\/?page_id=81\">Fighting Spirit<\/a> <\/em>is my best-selling book and is\u00a0widely recognized as the definitive biography about the martial arts star Bruce Lee.\u00a0 The original book took\u00a0four years of research in the UK, US, Australia\u00a0and China, drawing from\u00a0over 1500 sources.\u00a0 It&#8217;s currently in its third completely revised and rewritten version, which took a further year to write.<\/p>\n<p>I\u00a0trained for several years in Body, Mind and Spirit\u00a0Martial Art, at the west London school of\u00a0its founder, the late master Derek Jones.\u00a0 Derek\u00a0himself was taught by men who trained alongside Bruce Lee, in Hong Kong, in the <em>wing chun <\/em>style of <em>kung fu.\u00a0 <\/em>And just as Bruce Lee\u00a0went on to evolve his own martial art, so Derek Jones&#8217; BMS\u00a0grew from\u00a0the same\u00a0roots.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u00a0plays bass &#8230; I&#8217;m probably best-known as the\u00a0bass player with Elvis Costello and the Attractions, who I\u00a0recorded and performed with for the best part of twenty years &#8230;\u00a0and with whom I was inducted into the US Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2003.
